Perhaps getting Vitality EXP in Derelict is the hardest grind in the game because of how counter-intuitive it is to the optimal playstyle. When you want to avoid as much damage as possible to save resources, Vitality can only be earned by receiving hits from your enemies. But there’s a way to grind for it so you don’t waste too much time getting hit and healing.
How To Get Vitality EXP Fast
The organic way to get Vitality EXP is by grinding for Strength and materials as you go. You’ll naturally receive damage if you run on melee weapons and slowly gather vitality that way.
But you might not be getting as much as you proceed in the game because you’ve also learned how to dodge and block.
This trick will work on any level, but you’re best doing this when you’re very high level. Early on in the game, your skill is capped based on your main level. Once you begin to feel the bosses are too hard and grinding on the next bandit den is getting too hard, start spamming this trick.
You will need as many fire starters as you can get and logs. Each fire starter needs one log. Head to Hollow’s Pass and then go throught the bridge, into the fortress.
Set up a campfire right before entering the fortress and then take off all your armor. Dive right into the enemies and let them kill you. After the first death, you can still go back to the campfire to heal up. Then head back into the fortress, rinse and repeat.
The first picture here is where I decided to set up my campfire. After a few testing, I find setting it up a little further down is more ideal. Because once you get back up after they down you, you immediately aggro them and will have to run further away.
The amount of Vitality EXP you get depends on your HP bar. The longer it is, the more EXP you get. Hence why I suggest doing this in late game when you have longer HP bar to maximize your Vitality EXP gain here.
