There are so many ways to approach combat in Starfield, and as you loot dead bodies or the plethora of ammo crates scattered all throughout the world, you’ve probably expanded your arsenal of weapons with a bunch of mines and grenades. In this guide, we’ll be teaching you how to switch between various grenades and how to actually throw them, which will help you deal with large crowds or those pesky enemies hiding behind cover!

Starfield: Throw & Switch Grenades

First of all, you must open your inventory and click on the Throwables category, where you’ll find all of your grenades and mines. From there, just click on your explosive of choice and close the menu. The number of throwables you currently have equipped should now show up under your ammo counter.

The default button to throw grenades is “G”, or the Right Bumper if you’re using a controller. If you’re not comfortable with this keybinding, you can go to the settings and change the “Throw Grenade” key to whatever you want (ideally something that’s easy to reach).

Now, you’re probably thinking that bringing up the inventory every time you want to switch grenades is too much work, especially in the heat of combat. An easy remedy for this is by assigning your explosives as one of your favorites.

To do this, just bring up the inventory and open the Throwables category once more. Then, hover over your grenade or mine of choice and press ”B” (or the “Y” button if you’re on a controller) and add it to one of the twelve quick slots to set it as a favorite. With that done, you can now use your selected hotkeys to switch between different explosives without having to open any menus!
