Aside from collecting various bits of gear and accessories in Star Ocean The Second Story R, you can also unlock certain characters from the other games of the franchise. They have wildly varying requirements, and some are more straightforward than the rest. With all that said, here is a quick guide on how to get them!
How to Unlock All Assault Formation Character Jewels
There are quite a handful of characters that you can unlock from other Star Ocean games, specifically the protagonists from the titles they released over the years.
Some of them only require you to progress through the game normally, while the others may require a bit of guidance.
Laeticia
Laeticia from Star Ocean 6 is relatively easy to unlock as she merely requires you to progress through the story. Following the events at Krosse Cave, you should receive the Laeticia Jewel for free.
Edge
Next up, Edge from Star Ocean 4 can be unlocked by trading certain fish to the NPC named Reel in Harley. Specifically, you have to give her either a Harbor Amago, Divine Char, or a Spring Child.
The easiest one to get out of these will be the Harbor Amago, which you can fish for just to the west of Kurik.
Once you’ve gotten one of the three required fish, return to Reel and give it to her in exchange for the Edge Jewel.
If for you’ve already moved on to the next planet, you can find Reel again in L’Aqua, so don’t worry about missing the opportunity to trade with her if you ever progress through the story.
Raymond
In order to get Raymond from Star Ocean 6, you will simply need to acquire 22 different kinds of fish. After doing that, just speak with Reel in order to receive the Raymond Jewel.
Fayt
Fayt from Star Ocean 3 will require a bit of grinding, though nothing too incredibly challenging. First, go to the Challenge Missions menu.
From here, swap over to the Expert tab and scroll down until you find the “Use assault actions 50 times” challenge. Completing this challenge will get you a free Fayt Jewel.
Roddick
Roddick from the first Star Ocean, just like the previous entry, merely requires you to complete a certain challenge in order to unlock him.
Again, go to the Challenge Missions menu and find the “Complete guild missions 30 times” task. Upon completing this challenge under the Expert tab, you will get a free Roddick Jewel.
Fidel
Finally, Fidel from Star Ocean 5 requires you to progress quite a bit into the game and unlock the ability to fly around the map.
First, you will need to find a Raid enemy, which are shown in the world map as red swirling clouds. These are extremely strong and offer all sorts of great rewards upon defeat.
The easiest way to find one is to fly over to the back of the mountains behind Fun City. This will require you to be quite powerful, as the fight itself is pretty tough.
After defeating the raid enemy, go to the Challenge Missions menu once more and switch over to the Specialist tab. There, you should be able to find the “Defeat 1 raid enemy” mission, which will reward you with a Fidel Jewel.
That’s pretty much all you need to know in order to unlock all of the support characters from the previous Star Ocean games. It may be a bit time consuming to perform all these steps, but they are absolutely worth getting!
