Starfield: Enlightened vs Universal | Which Should You Choose?

Ah yes, religious politics in my Bethesda game.

Starfield is a Bethesda game, and Bethesda is no stranger in bringing real world politics into their games. Fallout and The Elder Scrolls are chock full of political themes, which is incredibly hard to miss unless you purposely ignore it or misinterpret it. Starfield also has politics, and that includes religious politics.

There are two groups called Enlightened and Universal, which are the equivalent of religious people and atheists in the real world. You have the option to join these two religious factions, but which one should you choose? Here, I will show you the benefits of both the Enlightened faction and the Universal faction.

Enlightened vs Universal

As stated before, Enlightened and Universal are the Starfield equivalents of religious people and atheists.

Starting with the Universal group, these people believe that a divine deity, like God, exists somewhere out in the cosmos. They believe that the Grav Drive was created so that humanity can find God out there in the stars.

However, they are a young religion, having only started 20 years before the events of the game. Also, they focus their efforts in pursuing the divine deity out in the cosmos, not really focusing on anything else other than that.

If you do join Universal, you will get access to the contents of their chest. Here’s what you can find inside:

  • 5x Med Packs
  • 2x Addichrone
  • Festive Neocity Poncho
  • Boom Pop! Orange
  • Sanctum Universum, Vol I
  • Sanctum Universum, Vol II
  • Sanctum Universum, Vol III

The Enlightened are a group of people that reject the idea that there is a divine entity that controls the universe and instead, embraces the idea of humanism. They are essentially the atheists in the world of Starield, choosing to not believe in a higher power but in humans instead.

However, what makes them so great is that instead of chasing after a divine deity like the Universal group, they focus their efforts on making sure that humanity thrives. They often run charities and help communities prosper, all the while helping humanity explore the stars and find new worlds.

Just like with Universal, you can get access to their chests if you join them. Here’s what you can expect to find in their chest:

  • 5x Med Packs
  • 2x Penicillin
  • Water Drink Pack
  • Settler Poncho
  • Charity in a Godless Universe, Part I
  • Charity in a Godless Universe, Part II
  • Charity in a Godless Universe, Part III
  • Charity in a Godless Universe, Part IV

So, which is the best religion to go with? Honestly, it doesn’t really matter. Joining each of the religion only gives you new dialogue options that don’t really matter and have no impact to the main story as a whole.

If I were to suggest joining a religion, I would go with Enlightened, solely for the fact that they seem like nice people that only focuses on helping humanity survive.

That’s all you need to know on Enlightened vs Universal. Did this guide help you understand each faction better? Let us know in the comments below.
