Outposts in Starfield are bases players can build on planets they visit. With the Build Mode, you will be able to choose from a variety of different structures to build. You can also customize these buildings based on your preferences.

When you interact with these Outposts, you will be able to go into build mode. This is when you are able to build different structures that require resources and power to operate. However, some players may struggle with the controls. In this guide, we will show you how to turn on/off build mode.

How to Turn On/Off Build Mode at Outposts

When you place down an outpost, you place down this one device you can see in the image down below. By interacting with the device, you will be able to Enter build mode, which allows you to customize nearby buildings.

In order to leave build mode, look to the bottom right of your screen. There, you will be able to see the button that you can hold to quit build mode, in this case being the “B” Key. The key for each device may differ from one another, so check which key is the right one for you.

Some players may also wonder whether there is a way to activate build mode indoors. This is because they keep having to turn it off to open airlock doors in Outpost.

The solution for this is that you can go inside and open your scanner. Then, press the outpost button that you used to place down the Outpost in beginning.

Depending on what device you use, you can use that key to go into build mode. For example, the key is R on PC.

That is how you can turn on/off build mode at outposts in Starfield. Now that you know how this feature works in the game, you can start customizing your outpost. With a variety of buildings and structures to choose from, you’ll be able to construct all those buildings that give great utilities, which will greatly aid your progress.
