The PlayStation 5 is the latest next-generation gaming console offered by Sony, boasting the most impressive performance to date. The console features a lightning-fast SSD alongside the groundbreaking Dualsense Controllers.
Additionally, the console includes many accessibility features that help to make the experience more enjoyable. One of these is using two controllers at the same time for a game. This guide will focus on how you can do this on your console.
Using 2 Controllers to Play the Same Game
The first thing that you need is obviously two controllers for this to work. These can be either the Dualsense or the Dualsense Edge controllers.
As far as we are aware, Dualshock 4 controllers are not compatible with this feature. Support third-party controllers will work with this method, so there is no harm in trying.
To use this feature, you will need to first enable it using the settings. For this, open the Settings menu and select the Accessibility option. This should be the second option in the settings menu, as shown in the image below.
Select the option to go into the menu, and you should should see several additional options in the sidebar.
Scroll down to the Controllers section to open it, and you should see a Use Second Controller for Assistance option.
This is a very useful feature that will allow you to use two controllers as if they were one. To enable the option, go into the sub-menu and toggle the Use Assist Controller option, as shown in the image below.
Once the option is enabled, all you have to do is turn on another supported controller and choose a profile for it. Once this is done, the two controllers will act as one, allowing you to support someone else in their play session.
An important point to note is that the secondary controller will not have the Haptic Feedback or the Adaptive Trigger adjustments. These will only be active on the main controller.
