After months of hype and various test periods, Nightingale was finally released! While we know that many of you will be eager to take your time and explore the magical Fae Realms, not everyone plays at the same speed. If you’re close to finishing the game, or already have, don’t worry! With it still in Early Access, the development of Nightingale is ongoing, meaning there is plenty more to come.

If you’ve finished everything Early Access has to offer, and want an explanation of the ending, then look no further! Here is the complete story ending of Nightingale explained.

Complete Story Ending Explained

The main goal of Nightingale is for you, an intrepid Realmwalker, to return to Nightingale City. In Early Access, however, the story only extends to The Watch, a stronghold in the Realms. Here, all the Realmwalkers separated from Earth will find a new home until they can return. That’s the plan, anyway. Only time will tell how many more problems our Realmwalkers will encounter.

To get to The Watch, you must find Nellie Bly, a famous journalist both in Nightingale and in real life. Holed up atop a mesa in the Herbarium Desert, she is surrounded by machinery. Here, she plans to fix a broken gateway that will take you to The Watch.

It’s not such a simple task, however. Nellie will give you a series of quests to find parts for the broken gateway, including getting a Pellucidic Etched Ingot from the Sun Giants. No easy feat!

Fixing the Portal

Once you find everything Nellie needs, it’s a simple matter of heading back to her and turning in the items. Now, you simply wait for her to finish fixing the portal. If you want, you can strike up a conversation here, asking how she came to the Realms.

Nellie will also mention somebody called Quartermain that she hopes to find in The Watch. This is Allan Quartermain, a fictional adventurer who has made his way into the world of Nightingale.

When your conversation with Nellie finally ends, the portal will be fixed. Head down into the cave to find it, but someone is waiting for you. It’s Puck – the Shakespearean Fae who has been helping you.

Why can’t he just talk normally?

In yet another weird poetic speech, Puck will tell you that you have signed a contract with him. Whether you meant to or not, now that he’s been helping you, you owe him. One day, he’ll return so you can fulfil your end of the bargain. Ominous!

After Puck has left, you are free to enter the portal. You’re now in The Watch, off to find Quartermain and taking the next step to get back to Nightingale City.

While this is all of the story available in Early Access so far, there is sure to be more released as the game develops. Inflexion Games have not set a date for the full game’s release yet, but say they plan to stay in Early Access for 9-12 months.
