Final Fantasy 14 has a lot of great jobs for people to choose from. There are tanks, DPS, healers and so on. In the DPS role in particular there are a lot, From Monks and Reapers to Black Mages and Red Mages. There is one DPS job that stands out from the rest though. This is a job most players call a “gimmick job” that even in-game lore states are something of a weird type of magic. Blue mage is that job, a strange class that has no spells or skills of its own. Instead, they take spells and skills from monsters to use. In this Blue Mage Fast guide, we’ll show you the basics of leveling a Blue Mage.

First off you need to actually get the job first. The Blue Mage job can be unlocked by doing a series of quests. This starts with “Out of The Blue” inside Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks shown on the image below.
Once you’ve finished all the quests in that chain then, you should be able to equip a Blue Mage weapon. You will also unlock the new Blue Magic Spellbook under your character tab.
The Blue mage stands out because they have to choose what spell it is to actively use using the spell slots at the bottom of the Blue Magic Spellbook. If you’ve played a wizard before in Dungeons and Dragons or any class that had prepared spell casting, then this is no stranger to you.
You can save sets of activated spells through templates so you don’t have to re-equip spells all the time.
Blue mages don’t get spells when they level. However, they actually gain spells when you attack an enemy and they cast an ability. Once they’ve cast an ability you can kill the monster and you gain said ability.
Now to effectively level the blue mage you’ll need to find a friend. I know that’s a big feat to get but I assure you it’ll be faster that way. Usually, you can hire people through the party finder to help you level or gain blue mage abilities, especially during events so go into the party finder and look for a friend. Usually, to hire friends like these you need at most 200,000 Gil.
Now that you’ve got a friend you can go to Eastern La Noscea and find yourself a Apkallu. These little penguin-like monsters can give you one spell that is great for tagging enemies.
The Flying Sardine spell might not sound great but this is a great spell to use when tagging enemies. You’ll need it when speed-leveling with your friend. So, attack an Apkallu and wait for it to cast Flying Sardine, once they’ve done that then kill the monster and you’ll get the spell.
To do the actual power leveling is easy, you’ll need to go with your friend into high-level areas and you will tag enemies with the Flying Sardine and let your friend kill them. How this works is that the first player that hits the enemy gets XP so you’ll get tons of XP in doing this.
Great areas to level with your friend are Azys Lla or Northern Thanalan. Just go around tagging monsters and letting your friend kill them. After a few hours, you’ll get to level 50 and you can start farming Tomestones, or you can level up to the max of 70 and do it then.
