Dungeons in MMORPGs are always a fun time, as long as you have a great party that is. We don’t want to talk about the wipes because that one tank pulled all the mobs and paused a second to get some drinks. Dungeons are often pretty linear though, sometimes they come with a story but most of the time the players just go through the dungeon, kill the bosses and hop out. Then do it a hundred times to get the loot drops. Final Fantasy 14’s new update adds some variety to dungeons by introducing Variant Dungeon paths and in this article we’ll show you how they work.

FFXIV: How To Complete All Variant Dungeon Paths & Notes

What are Variant dungeons anyway? Well they’re dungeons that have branching paths and each path usually has different endings. So each dungeon has multiple endings you can try and get, and they often are unlocked through certain actions done in said dungeon. In this guide we’ll show you how to get all the variant dungeon endings so you don’t miss a single thing! Also, you can get a nice mount from it so why not get it!

When you jump into a Variant Dungeon you’ll notice that there are 3 paths, one to the left, another to the right and the center ones. For the sake of making things simple we’ll show you what endings you can get in each path, starting with the left one.

Left Path – Ending 1 & 2

At one point in the left path you’ll find a room with a lot of bags and two pedestals. It’s a puzzle and you need to put the correct bags to get ending 1 and 2. That means getting the green bag on the rubble in the corner, and the yellow bag on the small dirt mound in another corner.

Afterwards you’ll get teleported into a place where you need to clean some mobs. After defeating them there’s two choices, either wait near the door for Nanamo to make it interactable that will lead you to ending 1. Or go to Nanamo and not interact with the door to get ending 2.

Left Path – Ending 3 & 4

To get these endings you’ll need to not solve the puzzle correctly by placing the wrong bags. The door will open that leads to another room with patches of white flowers. Stepping on all the flowers will give you Ending 3 and not stepping on any of them will give you Ending 4.

Right Path – Ending 5 & 6

In the right path after the first boss you’ll have to interact with the Rusty Winch and will be given a choice. Pick the left lift to continue.

Continue on and you’ll get another choice between Spark or Fire. Picking Spark will give you Ending 5 and picking Fire will give you Ending 6.

Right Path – Ending 7 & 12

From the rusty winch select the right lift. After continuing down the path you’ll see a room filled with giant lizards, this is a puzzle and you need to defeat them from largest to smallest. So kill the father first, then mother, brother, sister then the drakeling.

This will lead to another room filled with wraiths this time and once you clear it you can get the Incense in the room.

To get Ending 7 just continue through the path as normal and defeat the boss. For ending 12 you need to do the following.

Target the Fallen Hero’s Sarcophagus and do a bow emote. Then a respect emote, then vpose and finally the kneel emote. When you do this emotes correctly Nanamo will comment on it and you’ll get Ending 12.

Middle Path – Ending 8 & 9

At one point in the path you’ll get to the room with the Scales of Judgment. It’s a puzzle and to get these endings you just need to solve the puzzle incorrectly. After that you’ll get to a point where it gives you a choice on pulling a lever. Pulling it right will give you Ending 8, Pulling it left will give you Ending 9.

Middle Path – Ending 10 & 11

To get these endings you need to solve the scale puzzle right. That means placing the Helmet on the left and the fruit on the right.

This will lead you to two Statues that you can pray to. Praying to Nald will give you Note 10, and praying to Thal will give you Note 11.
