Sometimes a game just doesn’t give you enough information on what different mechanics do. Old games especially do this and leave the player wondering but some new ones do it as well.
In Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, players are a bit confused about what increasing a weapon’s level does. In other games like MMOs or RPGs that means increasing stats, right? Not quite for this game!
In this guide, we’ll show you what increasing weapon levels do in the game. There’s a reason why you should go for it that can lead to some fun gameplay!
Do Weapon Levels Give Stats?
When you shoot up the bugs in Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, they drop XP which you can pick up. Get enough of that and you level up, giving your character a new upgrade to choose from. One of the upgrades you can get is to your weapons.

Leveling Up Weapons
Weapon upgrades usually come with a bonus to something like damage and it says that it increases the weapon level. Increasing the weapon level doesn’t give stats, but instead gets you closer to an overclock.
When you look at the weapon upgrade you can see bars at the left side of the card. Each level is one bar and when you reach the big ones you can get an overclock.
Unlocking Overclocks
Veterans of Deep Rock Galactic should already know what overclocks are since it’s part of the end-game. For those who don’t know, overclocks are bonus upgrades that can drastically change how weapons work.
To unlock the overclocks, you’ll first need to level up a weapon to the maximum level of 12. Once you’ve done that, you can then get overclocks on your next run.
The overclocks can either be simple upgrades like massive damage increases in the expense of fire rate. It can also be big changes like adding new mechanics such as elemental damage. You can get multiple overclocks for each weapon so make sure to level them up and see what they are!
That’s how weapon levels work in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. They don’t give actual stats besides the bonuses, but you’ll want to increase it for overclocks!
