Dinkum: Alpha Kangaroo Guide

Kangaroos look like they’re docile and weak creatures from all the pictures you see in school. But in real life, that’s not the case. They’re animals of pure muscle and will fight to defend themselves, using their sharp claws and powerful kicks to ward off or wound would-be attackers. Although they can’t be that tough right? We’ve all seen that one video of a guy punching a kangaroo to protect his dog. Anyway, let’s check out what kangaroos are like in Dinkum through this Alpha Kangaroo guide.

Alpha Kangaroo Guide | Dinkum

First off, the Alpha Kangaroo, or as the game calls it, the Alpha Jackaroo can only spawn once you’ve accepted the “Alpha Jackaroo” request on the town’s Bulletin Board. The requests available on the board are random, so always check the board for these interesting requests. Once you accept it, it should spawn on the map. There will be a map marker on where it is.

When fighting alpha animals, I highly suggest to at least bring copper weapons, and some brews if you need health. We have a guide right here for brewing: Dinkum: Brewing Basics | Brewing Guide. Fighting the Kangaroo with a simple spear might be possible but I don’t want to risk it.

The Kangaroo has two attacks, one is a kick attack with some wind-up time, it’s very forgiving so you can just dodge it by moving away. The other one is a move where it jumps high and lands creating a shockwave that damages you and knocks you back. You better be careful of this attack in particular, since you can get hit multiple times if you just blindly move towards the center of the ring.

For the jump attack, I suggest either just waiting for the shockwave to disappear or jump over it. Either one works, it’s just that the latter can give you a chance to land a couple of hits before the next attack.

The Alpha Kangaroo has a lot of health, and took me a few minutes with a copper spear to defeat. Once you do so though you’ll be rewarded with some nice Raw Prime Meat, a great item for cooking!
