Dinkum: How To Get Sugar

Sugar has been something we humans have craved for a long time. It’s something that we really don’t need much of but we still crave for it. The sweet decadence of cakes and cookies demands sugar and for a long time, we might have demanded it so much that we started doing bad things to other people to get it. Good thing in Dinkum is we don’t have to do that anymore since we can just plant the crops to get it!

How To Get Sugar In Dinkum

To get this item, I highly suggest that you go through the basics of farming first. Luckily for you, we have a guide for that right here: Dinkum: Farming, Raising Animals & Growing Fruit.

Once you know the basics it’s better that you have Rayne, the Plant seller NPC on the island. You can either wait for her to visit or have her plant shop on your island. Whatever choice you make, you should go to her and buy some Sugar Cane Seeds. 

Sugar Cane Seeds grow for 12 days, but they can grow in any season. Each Seed costs 400 Dinks each so you should buy a bunch of them since they’re quite cheap.

Once you’ve done so, get yourself a hoe and a watering can and start farming! 12 days is not time in this game, it goes even faster if you have sprinklers.

Please don’t make fun of my farm, I couldn’t find time to make it prettier. To tell if the crops are good for harvest, they should have sparkling lights around them. Once you see those, equip your scythe and start harvesting!

Each Sugar Cane plant makes one Sugar Cane, so gather them all up and go to the next step which is to make a Grain Mill.

The recipe for the Grain Mill automatically unlocks when you get the Farming Level 1 License. It costs 4 Gum Wood Plank, 4 Old Gears, 2 Copper Bars and 1 Old Wheel. Once you’ve made one, or a couple of them, place them down somewhere and get your harvested canes ready.

Take your sugar canes and equip them, then click the left mouse button to insert them into the Grain Mill. Each mill takes one sugar cane and it takes a few minutes for them to finish the process. Once it’s done though it should spit out the bags of sugar!

Congratulations, now you know how to make sugar in Dinkum! Now go out there and make all of that sugar!
