Escape From Tarkov: Everything You Need To Know About Flares and Airdrops

These sorts of changes to the game usually appears after a wipe. A wipe is when all progress from all players is reset along with the market and the NPCs. With a new wipe players can go and play again experiencing a fresh new world in Escape From Tarkov, this is what usually happens to full loot PVP games to combat stagnation.

With the wipe came the new changes to the game, and the includes the new flares for players to find and loot. You can find these flares in loot containers or Scavs and can be quite valuable. They come in different forms and colors.

The most common flare is the handheld RSP-30 Reactive Signal Cartridges. Which look like batons or a really anemic Stielhandgranate. They come in different colors: From White, Yellow, Green and Red. When used, these flares can stay up in the air and light up an area for a respectable amount of time.

The most valuable one though, are the red flares. When you use these flares it will spawn a plane that will drop a loot crate nearby where the flare lights up.

Once you’ve lit the flare, it takes a few minutes for the plane to spawn and fly over, paradropping the loot box to its position. There are different kinds of loot boxes categorized by what kind of loot there are.

These are the different loot crates you can get:

  • Common Crates: A mix of middle tier gear which are completely random
  • Barter Crates: May contains barter items and tech items like graphics cards
  • Medical/Nutrition Crates: Medical items like IFAKS and Grizzly’s including an assortment of food and water.
  • Weapon/Mods/Armor Crate: Contains and assortment of weapons, armors and weapon mods.

Remember that crates can only drop in maps with open areas.

Another addition that involves flares is the ZiD SP-81 26.75 signal pistol, basically a flare gun. It’s better than a handheld flare since you can aim where you want the drop to be as well as the crate dropping closer to where to flare appeared.
