It has been quite a while since we last covered Lethal Company, but tens of thousands of people still play it on a regular basis. Even in its early access state, the developer releases a lot of chunky updates, and the new version 60 patch is bringing the game back in the spotlight. In this article, we will be covering everything you need to know about this patch!
Everything You Need to Know About the v60 Update
Before we go into any further detail, let’s list down the patch notes to give you a brief summary of what’s new. After the list below, we will go into more detail for the juicier bits in the next few sections:
- Kidnapper Fox Temporarily Removed
- Bog Crawler & Goopy Goblin Removed
- Dine entrance positions have been adjusted
- Coilheads received the following changes:
- These monsters can now enter a recharge phase after chasing you for a while.
- They can now lose track of you if you manage to stay out of their range and line of sight for a prolonged period of time.
- Their ability to chase jumping players has been slightly nerfed
- Spore Lizard and Flowerman AI has been optimized to prevent random lag spikes in certain maps
- Maneater monster added to the game
- Several new scrap items have been added to the game – This includes a soccer ball that can be kicked around and potentially bug out certain enemies.
- There is now a rare chance for all scrap pieces in a map to become the same type
- Mansion’s wooden doors now have a unique sound effect
- Mineshaft interior has been added
- The number of weather events on several moons at once has been adjusted slightly
- Other miscellaneous changes that the developer did not specify
As you can see, there are quite a bit of significant changes made, so we will be starting off with the biggest one in the list!
New Mineshaft Interior
First of all, there is now a mineshaft interior added to the game. This is supposedly going to be more common in moons such as Offense, Artifice, Dine, and Vow. With that said, it can still show up in others, albeit at a much lower chance.
We have a complete guide on Lethal Company’s new Mineshaft interior in the works, so you should check that out for a more detailed look into this map.
Since it is pretty fresh, players are still figuring out all its nooks and crannies. Even the wiki is still being updated as this is being written, so you’ll just have to dive in and explore the area yourself.
NOTE: If you want to try out this interior, it is highly recommended that you go to Vow, as it currently has a 99% chance of spawning with it. Offense and Artifice has relatively high chances too.
What is the Maneater?
Maneaters are little bug creatures that isn’t inherently dangerous when you first meet it, at least for a short while. Eventually, they will start crying, which can be triggered by various things such as:
- Loud noises near its location
- Being attacked by a player
- Seeing a player die or coming across one’s corpse
- Having a flashlight shine on it
- Getting dropped from high heights
- Being brought outside
- And many more…
Whenever it starts crying, a player must pick it up (this will take an inventory slot) and start rocking it in order to calm it down. To do this, you just have to hold the left mouse button until it stops.
This is essential, as leaving them to cry for too long will cause them to transition into the adult phase. Once this happens, it will permanently become a dangerous monster that will try to kill you.
One important thing to keep in mind is that it cannot be calmed down when taken outside. Because of this, you should remember to always let go of it before leaving the interior. If not, well, at least you’ll probably get a funny clip out of it.
Dealing With Adult Maneaters
As an adult, the Maneater will have an audibly lower pitched cry and a much larger character model. If it detects you, it will scream and charge at you at an incredibly swift pace.
When it becomes an adult, you can now deal damage to the Maneater. A double barrel shotgun is ideal for this purpose, as you do not want it to get too close to you.
The best way to deal with Maneaters is to just not allow them to turn into adults to begin with. Have somebody in your group take the responsibility of keeping it calm at all times, and then leave it in the interior when everybody is ready to leave.
You cannot deal damage to it before its adult phase. Because of this, you pretty much just have to take care of it throughout your trip. There are ways to get it out of the map, though it seems to teleport back to safety in some cases. Try that at your own risk.
So Long, Bog Crawler & Goopy Goblin
Finally, one of the more eye-catching and downright shocking changes in the latest patch notes is the removal of the Goopy Goblin and Bog Crawler from the game.
This is truly unfortunate, as they are beloved and iconic monsters in the community. My favorite moments came from Goopy Goblin when he used to do that one thing if he spawns in Experimentation.
Just kidding. This actually just seems like a bit of an inside joke by the developer, as these monsters were never actually in the game. It’s basically like that “Removed Herobrine” gag that Minecraft’s devs keep putting in their patch notes.
On a serious note, though, the Kidnapper Fox was temporarily removed from the game. People may be a bit relieved right now, but the developer has stated that they plan on reworking and reintroducing it at some point.
For now, at least, rest easy knowing that it won’t be a pain in your rear. Now go and pick up that crying baby. One problem out, one new (less OP) annoyance comes in!
And those are most of the significant changes in the latest update, with a few more stuff going on behind the scenes that we’ll learn more about as people test out the patch.
