God of War Ragnarök is the ninth installment in the God of War Series and a sequel to the much-acclaimed God of War released in 2018.

Developed by Santa Monica Studios, its gameplay boasts impressive cinematography combined with combo-based combat. It is an action, adventure, hack-and-slash game played in the third person.

The game was released in early November 2022, and as of writing, it is only currently available on PlayStation.

Plot

As Fimbulwinter is nearing its end, Kratos and Atreus are visited by Odin and Thor in their home. Here, Kratos learned of Atreus’ attempts to find Tyr, the current God of War believed to be killed by Odin.

The three (joined by Mimir) then traveled to Svartalfheim in hopes of finding Tyr after seeing the prophecy regarding Ragnarök in one of the Giant shrines.

This journey spiraled into various events and encounters in different realms that ultimately aided with the conclusion of Ragnarök. Set out on this journey with Kratos and Atreus and, once again, determine fate.

God of War Ragnarök is without a doubt a Game of the Year contender and possibly a clear winner! You will be getting your money’s worth for the high price that this game has and even if you are a newcomer to the God of War franchise, this game is also a perfect place to start with. We definitely recommend getting God of War Ragnarök as it improves on the very successful formula from 2018.

Before discussing the nitty gritty of the available resources, here are the details of the various stats that you will first encounter as you dive right into the game.

It is important to note that each weapon, weapon attachment, and armor set have its own perks. These perks are observed in the form of stats that help achieve different outcomes. Increasing these stats is done through weapon and armor upgrades and purchasing skills.

There are 6 stats that you need to consider in order to succeed in your quests:

Weapons

Leviathan Axe

The Leviathan Axe is the main offensive weapon that Kratos uses. This axe was created by Brok and Sindri and is said to be on par with the abilities of the Mjölnir. It is infused with the element of ice which allows the player to freeze their enemies momentarily.

The Leviathan Axe can be upgraded by each level by obtaining the Frozen Flame. Upgrading the axe can help provide additional boosts to your Strength stats.

Blades of Chaos

The Blades of Chaos is another offensive weapon that Kratos uses in-game as a secondary weapon. This weapon is known to have been Kratos’ signature during his exploits back in the Greek era. These blades were created in the Underworld by Ares. Its main element is fire, which allows the player to deal heavy damage to a group of enemies.

The Blades of Chaos can be upgraded by each level by obtaining the Chaos Flame. Upgrading this weapon should help boost your Runic stats.

Draupnir Spear

The Draupnir Spear is another offensive weapon that Kratos uses in-game. This weapon was forged in Svartalfheim by the Lady of Forge from Odin’s legendary ring, Draupnir, and Kratos’ own blood himself.

The Draupnir Spear can be upgraded by each level by obtaining the Gale Flame. Upgrading this weapon should help boost your Luck stats.

Shields

Kratos employs a shield as his main defense weapon. This may also be used to parry enemies, and in combination with his offensive weapons. There are three types of shields available in-game: the Guardian Shield, Dauntless Shield, and Stonewall Shield.

Shields are generally upgraded by using Resources such as Hacksilver and Slag Deposits, to mention a few.
GUARDIAN SHIELD: a shield that was gifted to him by his wife, Laufey. This shield was broken earlier in the game but can be used later after it is repaired by the Huldra brothers

Talon Bow

Throughout the journey, Kratos will be aided by his son, Atreus. The Talon Bow is his main weapon which allows him to deal long-range damage and even stun or distract enemies to help Kratos.

There are various items that you can collect in your journey through the Nine Realms. These items may be crafting components that can be used to upgrade your weapon and armor or artefacts that you can collect and learn additional information about the game.

HacksilverThe main currency in-game. This can be used to purchase weapons and armor in Brok and Sindri’s shop. You can collect this by defeating enemies and destroying boxes and jugs.
Idunn AppleThis special item is first encountered in Svartelfheim in one of the Nornir Chests. Collecting this helps add an additional bar to your health bar permanently.
Horn of Blood MeadThis special item can also be collected from opening up Nornir Chests. Collecting this helps add an additional bar to your rage bar permanently.
Dew of the World TreeThis special item helps in permanently increasing any of your stats. To collect it, make sure to check for bent tree branches with an icy blue dew drop.
Resurrection StonesThese stones help the player to self-revive when needed. There are three types of this stone that provide varying degrees of health that can be recovered after revival. All stone types can be bought in the shop:

Simple Resurrection Stone (cost: 1500): a small amount of health restored
Superior Resurrection Stone (cost: 3000): a large amount of health restored
Berserker’s Resurrection Stone (cost: 5000): a small amount of health and a max rage bar upon recovery
