Risk of Rain Returns is a remastered version of the titular roguelike game from way back in 2013, and it features a wide range of fresh content ranging from stuff taken from Risk of Rain 2 to completely original additions. Having said that, the old cast is still around, and that includes Acrid, who you’ll still have to unlock by playing through the game. So, how exactly do you get Acrid?
How to Unlock Acrid
As Acrid is a returning character, you may be wondering if they changed how to unlock it. Luckily, they didn’t, so fans of the previous game will likely be very familiar with the method of unlocking this deadly creature.
First, you will need to get lucky and have the Sunken Tombs level as your third stage. There’s no way around this, you just have to keep playing over and over again until you get it.
Once you manage to get the Sunken Tombs to appear, make your way to the upper right corner of the stage. Here, you will find a container that you can open.
Upon opening this container, you will have to fight Acrid. It won’t be a particularly tough fight but be prepared either way in case you have had bad luck with your items up to this point.
Once you kill Acrid, you’ve pretty much done it. This terrifying creature is now one of your selectable survivors at the start of each run.
Acrid’s Abilities
If you’re wondering what Acrid’s abilities are before you unlock it, long-time fans will be glad to know that this creature has remained the same as before. Its abilities are as follows:
- Festering Wounds – Attack an enemy for 120% damage, then poison them for a small portion of your DPS.
- Neurotoxin – Spits toxic bile for a whopping 220% damage and stuns any enemies within range for a single second.
- Caustic Sludge – Secretes poisonous sludge for a few seconds. This buffs your teammates’ speed while slowing down and damaging enemies that come into contact.
- Epidemic – Releases a poisonous affliction that deals 100% of your DPS and spreads to other targets after a second.
And that’s all you need to know about how to unlock Acrid and what its abilities are. There are more characters, both new and returning, that you can unlock, so keep on grinding new runs to get them!
