Risk of Rain Returns is tough. The game itself is pretty hard, but also the nature of roguelikes has it so that you never really know what you’re going to get, and it takes only one moment of bad luck to completely ruin your run.

Luckily, in Risk of Rain Returns, like in many other roguelikes, you can adjust your game settings in a way that makes the effect of that randomness less significant. However, Risk of Rain Returns doesn’t allow you to get these modifications right away – you have to unlock them.

In this guide, we will show you how to unlock the Artifact of Command, one of the modifiers featured in this game. But first, we’ll explain what the Artifact of Command does.

How to Unlock the Artifact of Command

The unlock for Artifact of Command is arguably the easiest Artifact unlock out of all.

All you need to do is get to Hive Cluster, a potential Fourth Level of your run. Some variants of this stage will have a bunch of vines that disappear and reappear in the top right area of the map.

You need to use these to platform to the area where there’s a big teleporter and the Artifact of Command is floating on it.

Once you do that, just grab the Artifact by going into it and you’ve unlocked the Artifact of Command!

What is the Artifact of Command

Artifacts are the unlockable modifiers that we mentioned which affect some aspect of Risk of Rain Returns’ gameplay.

Artifact of Command is one of the most commonly used ones, and for good reason. It removes randomness altogether from items and allows you to choose which item you get from chests.

This means you can make your own build and decide which items are the best for your character
