Artifacts in Risk of Rain Returns primarily exist to modify the game somehow and make runs unique to each other. Some of them, like the Artifact of Command, make the game easier, for example by making you able to choose which items you want to get.
This guide is about an Artifact that doesn’t make anything easier, and exists as the name implies, just for spite. But it’s fun to play around with and fairly easy to get, so we’ll show you how to get it and quickly explain what it does.
How to Unlock the Artifact of Spite
First you need to get to Sky Meadow, a potential Second Level stage. In some variants of this stage, on the left side, there will be a small patch in the ground that kind of looks like it can be broken.
You need a Parent enemy to smash it so that it breaks. This is easy enough to do, since lots of those enemies spawn on the stage, so you just have to wait. Once it smashes the ground and breaks the patch, go down.
You’ll then need to do a short platforming section to get the Artifact of Spite. Luckily, the platforming isn’t hard, so you won’t really need extra mobility items.
What Is The Artifact of Spite
You unlocked the Artifact! Now what?
Once enabled, the Artifact makes it so that when you kill an enemy, it fires out projectiles that explode upon third bounce, or when they hit a while. The number of projectiles depends on how big the enemy is.
Pretty useless, but kind of fun! Keep in mind, the projectiles can also damage you too.
