We’ve come a long way from quest design since the early days of video games. Most quests these days have branching paths or different endings that you can work towards to. In Starfield, that’s the case for a lot of their quests and one of which is the Red Tape Runaround. This quest can end in multiple ways and it’s up to your choices on what will happen at the end.
In this guide, we’ll show you what are all the choices you can make when going through this quest. We’ll also make sure to keep the spoilers to a minimum so that you can still enjoy some of the quest yourself. Now, let’s see what this quest has to offer.
Red Tape Runaround All Choices | Which One Should You Pick
One of the quests you can encounter in Starfield is the Red Tape Runaround quest. This one involves a Governer Hurst as he tasks you with a simple job.
He wants you to destroy a single ship, his own personal space craft, that has been taken over by pirates. Simple right? Well, it’s more complicated than you think, and this is where the many choices can be made.
Destroying The Ship
Of course, one of the choices you can do and the most obvious one is just to follow his orders. Get to the ship, destroy it and report back to Governor Hurst.
This will commend you for a job well done and you’ll get nothing as the quest continues. Of course, this is the most straightforward and boring way of doing it. If you want to save time, then pick this one.
Blackmail Governor Hurst
The next choice you can do is actually find the ship and hail it. This will start a small conversation and you can dock and go inside the ship.
There, you’ll meet the pirates, and you can either persuade them to not fight or fight them. If you pick to fight them, then the item we need is on the corpse of the pirate leader.
If you pick to persuade them to not fight, then you can check the corpses on the ship for evidence. Both will lead to us knowing about Governor Hurst’s dealings with pirates.
Now, you can go back to Governor Hurst and talk to him. Tell him you know about his dealings, and you can blackmail him. Doing so will give you some cash and continue the quest. So, if you want the cash then you can go with this option.
Installing A New Governor
This one is a little bit like the blackmailing choice but this time you don’t blackmail but instead report to the authorities.
When you learn about Governor Hurst’s dealings with the pirates, you’ll want to go back to mars. There, you’ll need to find CDR Woodard; we have a guide on where to find him if you can’t!
Once you talk to him, you can report on your findings on Governor Hurst’s dealings. He’ll ask for proof and good thing you have the proof from the ship.
Give it to him and report back to Hurst and lie to him that you destroyed the ship! From there, the quest will continue and later on CDR Woodard will be the new governor!
This is the choice for those people that like to do the good choices in games, or if you just really don’t like Governor Hurst’s face.
Those are all the choices for the Red Tape Runaround quest in Starfield. Now, go out there and pick the best one for you! Remember that doing all of these doesn’t really end the quest and there’s more to do afterwards.
