There are a lot of different characters you can unlock in The First Descendant, and they can be quite a grind to do so. You’ll want to unlock them though because all of them have unique looks, skills, and passives which can make the gameplay more exciting. One must try all of them and see what the best character is for you and unlocking them can be a challenge.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to unlock Valby in the game. So, get ready to do some grinding or just get the right currency and we’ll be good to go!
How to Unlock Valby
When unlocking different descendants in The First Descendant, you’ll need to gather a couple of things first. Not only that but these items you’ll need to gather can either be bought or farmed in different activities in the game.
Here are the steps we’ll be taking to unlock Valby:
- Go to Magister Anais and Talk to Her
- Select Research Request to view the Research Window.
- Select the Descendant Tab.
- Find and Select Valby.
- Get the necessary materials either by buying or grinding for them.
- Start the research request.
- Wait for the research request to finish to get the new character!

Detailed Walkthrough
To get Valby, you’ll first need to go to Magister Anais. Once you talk to her, select the “Research Request” button to send you to the research request window.
This is where you can get all sorts of things for your characters. But what we’ll want to do is go to the Descendant tab.
Once you’re inside the descendant’s tab, go look for Valby and select her. From there, you’ll see something like the image below. To the right, is a list of which research materials you’ll need to get.
To learn where you can find these materials, you can mouse over them and press X to learn which activities drop the materials.
You can also go back to Anais’ dialogue options and select the second option called “Descendant Material Shop.”
As the name implies this is a shop where you can buy materials to unlock descendants. If you have the currency to spare and want to save time, you can buy the materials here!
These are the materials you’ll need for Valby:
- 1x Valby Enhanced Cells
- 1x Valby Stabilizer
- 1x Valby Spiral Catalyst
- 1x Valby Code
Once you have all the materials, you need you can then select the “Research Request” button on the lower right.
This will start the research for that descendant and usually, it takes more than 10 hours. You can use more currency to speed up the process and make it instant.
