Nightingale is a highly anticipated open world survival game with a lot of procedural generation and RPG elements. One of the key mechanics of the game have to do with raising your gear level in order to face the many challenges you will encounter throughout your journey. Here is a quick guide on how to kickstart your adventure with low level gear upgrades!

How to Get Tier 1 Essence Dust & Upgrade Gear Effectively

Once you are ready to move on from the bare basics, you will have to progress into farming tier 1 essence, which is marked by a green color.

In order to start getting this resource, you will have to complete the Antiquarian Site of Power. This will require a Gear Score of 20 to unlock, so you better be ready with some of the best low level stuff you can make.

After that, you will get the mission “Unlock Schematic: Antiquarian Major Card”. Once you finish that, you can now start farming tier 1 essence by killing enemies or harvesting resources in the Antiquarian realm.

Also, if you’re interested in reading more about Essence, we have a complete guide on Essence in Nightingale – where you can explore other topics besides Tier 1.

Aside from the Antiquarian realm, you can also acquire tier 1 essence from Astrolabe and Provisioner realms. Use this tip to plan out your next set of portals as you progress through the early game.

Upgrading Your Items

At a Simple Upgrade Bench, you can use your tier 1 essence to upgrade your common tier items and increase their stats and gear score.

This is something that you will be doing with higher tier essence later on as well. At this point, just upgrade all of your gear to boost your gear score.

One small bonus tip we can give you is that you can increase your current gear score by a little more if you have two held weapons instead of a single two-handed item. Use this to get past certain gear score limitations if you need to.
