FFXIV: 10 Tips to Make Your HUD & UI Better

We understand that the HUD and UI can be subjective. Some UI placements can work for some people and can be completely confusing for others. That’s why in this guide we won’t give you exact UI and HUD placements but instead general tips and tricks to make your UI better and clean. Here are some of the things you should keep in mind when setting your HUD and UI.

Key bindings

Most players in MMOs don’t ever change their key bindings and keep the hotbar from 1 to 9. This can work in more casual play, but in high end content this might not be idea. That’s because your left hand will often be on the WASD, and if you need to use a skill at 7 to 8 ranges in your hotbar, you’ll need to really stretch your hands or let go of WASD entirely to do it. This is not ideal and there’s a simple solution for this.

Use your Control and Shift keys for your key bindings. Combining the Control, Shift or even Alt keys with the number keys can be set so that you don’t have to stretch your hands anymore. You can even use it for different keys in the same area like Control-Q or Shift-R. Experiment on what’s best for you.

HUD Placement

A great way to improve your take of information in the game is to centralize your HUD. The default HUD placements places everything around you screen, and you’ll need to look around to actually get all the relevant information in the raid. The HUD doesn’t need to be in the center of the screen but all information should be in one place to easily keep track of them.

Also don’t forget that you can rescale your HUD items, so something is too big or if you need to see something better than you can set that in the UI Element Settings.

Targeting

Targeting AOE spells and skills can be annoying, especially if you can’t eye the range of it. In the options there’s a setting to limit ring movement to targeting range so you don’t need to guess anymore!

Remember that if you’re having trouble seeing where you’re aiming because of all the spell and skill effects in the game, you can limit battle effects in the settings.
