Ark Survival Ascended is the sequel to the very popular Ark Survival Evolved. Ascended is essentially an upgraded version of Evolved, with pretty much all of the lessons learned over the years when the developers were making the first game.

With the second game, they brought back some things from the first game that a lot of people know, like the Cryopod.

The question here is: does it work the same? In this guide, I will show you everything new about the Cryopod and the changes that were made in the Ark Survival Ascended’s latest update.

Cryopod Update Guide

One thing you should know about the Cryopod in the game is that you cannot throw out the Cryopod into the world and expect anything to happen if you are not near a Cryofridge.

It’s one of the major changes to Cryopods, and it’s one that many players don’t like. Whether the devs will change this feature or not is up to them.

Upon further testing, however, it seems that you will need to be within 30 to 40 meters of the Cryofridge to throw out a Cryopod.

Bear in mind that this is all done with the Cryofridge placed on a flat surface, so the distance may vary depending on how elevated or low the placement of the Cryofridge is.

But what about getting the Cryopods? Well, you will now only unlock the Cryopods (and the Cryofridge) when you hit level 50.

So far, the requirements in crafting a Cryopod and Cryofridge is the same.

All that’s changed is the level needed to get them to unlock and where you can craft them, which are Tek Replicator’s, Supply Crate’s, and Tribute Terminals.

For Cryopods, you can notice that after using one successfully, there will be a countdown at the bottom left corner.

That is the amount of time needed for the Cryopod to recharge and yes, it will actually take 30 days for the thing to recharge.

This essentially makes animal taming a waiting game, but only if you don’t have a Cryofridge.

However, if you place the Cryopods at a Cryofridge, the pods will be recharged almost instantly to 100%.

This is something to keep in mind of when animal taming, as it practically eliminates the charging and allows you to use the Cryopods almost instantly.

Placing the Cryopods in the Cryofridge speeds up the recharge in Ark Survival Ascended.

So, you may be thinking “Let’s add another Cryofridge so we can store more Cryopods for future use.”

That’s a good idea, and the game lets you snap the Cryopods together, so they can be closer and won’t take up too much space.

However, there is a bit of a downside that will happen, although one that isn’t too bad. When you place a Cryofridge next to another Cryofridge, you will notice that there is a timer when looking at the new Cryofridge.

There is a text that states that Cryopod deployment is prevented for the next 5 minutes in the game.

You can still place Cryopods in the fridge for charging, but that’s about it. It may seem bad at first, but 5 minutes will go pretty quickly if you do other things in the meantime.

One other change I need to point out, because this could mean life or death in certain situations, is that you cannot deploy Cryopods out into the wild with tames near you, even when they are dead, as well as anything owned by enemies.

It is a very weird change in the game – I’m still not sure if it’s on purpose or a mistake made by the developers that they overlooked and shipped out with the update.

Either way, this makes situations when fighting enemy tames extremely difficult, because you’re not able to bring out your own tames in a fight if the enemy’s dead tame is near you.

If you can get a good distance away from the enemy though, around 30 to 40 meters away, you can throw out a Cryopod successfully. But hopefully, this gets changed in a future fix either way.

That’s all you need to know about the new changes for the Cryopod, as well as the Cryofridge, in Ark Survival Ascended.
