Dinkum: Bug Catching Complete Guide

Back in my day me and fellow kids had a fascination with bugs and nature. We used to capture large beetles and tie string around them and let them fly around wherever we went. I don’t know if kids do this now but my family didn’t have a computer back then so, this was the closest we could get to entertainment. That and Television with commercials every 2 seconds. I’m sure there are still kids out there who love playing with random insects they find around their house. In this guide we’ll show you how to collect bugs in Dinkum, partly for me to relive my childhood fascination with bugs! Let’s get to know the basics of bug catching.

Bug Catching In Dinkum | Complete Guide

So you want to be a bug catcher! Well, before you go out there in the great big wilderness filled with jacked up kangaroos and crocodiles you should first go to John. He’s the NPC that you’ll meet in the early parts of the games that runs a shop. He sells all of the basic tools you’ll need in Dinkum, as well as the Bug Net which costs 1,100 Dinks.

Once you’ve gotten yourself a bug net then it’s time to go out there and look for bugs! There’s plenty of bugs in Dinkum so you have to keep an eye on them. The easiest bugs to spot are butterflies, like the one in the image below, a butterfly I found just outside John’s store.

It’s not only flying bugs though since there’s also bugs that crawl on the ground as well, so you better keep an eye on the ground too. Some bugs can be quite hard to find with all the grass and trees around but while running around the island doing the usual stuff you might find a bug here and there. While I was hunting, I found a spider just crawling around the ground in the image below.

Once you found a bug you can use your Bug Net by using left click on your mouse. Aiming the net takes a bit of practice since it actually captures the bug based on the tile it’s in and not where it is so you should keep that in mind.

Just remember that bugs take one inventory space. This might change in the future since the game is still being updated, but in the time of writing they take up a lot of space!

Now you know the basics of bug catching, now go out there and get those creepy crawlies!
