Ah yes, the KS-23, one of the marvels of Soviet Engineering. If you thought being on the receiving end of a 12 gauge double barrel was bad then you clearly haven’t been shot enough by a bigger caliber. This 4 gauge monstrosity was born because someone in Eastern Europe really hated vehicles, specifically engine blocks.

Now the power and responsibility of taking down metallic freaks are bestowed upon you, the player! The only problem is that you have multiple targets and only four shells to work with, luckily the game overlooks that and offers a free upgrade. You just need to do a little bit of legwork to get it!

Atomic Heart | Shotgun KS-23 Extended Magazine Location

Weapon upgrades should always be expected in any first-person shooter, and Atomic Heart lives up to just that. You can find these upgrades scattered in all the areas that you visit so it would be wise to take a wrong turn every now and then to check on what you might have missed.

Let’s see what the Scientific Testing Grounds have to offer!

As soon as you get to Testing Ground 1, go to the tower on the right side of the pathway and interact with the terminal above.

Hover over the camera shown in the image above and point it towards the blue dome to open the doors. There’s an elevator inside, call it by pushing the red button next to it.

When you arrive downstairs go through the corridor and make a right turn the first chance you get.

This will lead you to your first puzzle room, use SHOK to get on the right side of the room, climb the platform and do it again to the blue magnets in front. Climb down and do that one more time to the red magnets to gain access to the exit.

The next room is easy, just step on the second lane of blue magnets on the ground and cast SHOK on the red ones above. Simply hop and dash towards the exit and promptly make a right turn at the end of the corridor.

Make a left turn at the end of the corridor again and head for the crawl space up front. Turn right as soon as you can and follow up with a left. Drop down at the end of the tunnel and walk to the opening again. Turn right into a massive room filled with metallic vacuum tubes and left at the end.

Make one more right turn and that will lead you to a small office space, the door on the other side will lead you to a corridor that’s blocked off by a magnetic door. Show your hand to the red magnets to get it to open.

You are now in the third magnetic puzzle room. You can get around this by lowering the platforms near the broken door to reveal a laser puzzle. To solve this interact with the lower unit on the middle first, then the one on the far left second.

After all that a door that leads to a golden Comrade Lootyagin containing your KS-23 Magazine Extension will open, the room before this one has an elevator that you can call at the push of another red button.

With that you now have extra shells to feed your fire stick of destruction. Try it on the first mutant you see!

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
