Games like Ark Survival Ascended will have settings. You can make changes to these settings in any way you please while on a console or a proper computer. However, things work differently on a console. On a computer, you just close the game and find an .ini file somewhere in the games root folder and right click on it.
On a console, you have to do it while the game is running. Well, for ARK at least. Find out more on how you can edit an INI by making use of the guide below!
How To Edit INI on XBOX / PS5
You can make changes to your INI using the in-game command console. To see this option, pause the game and check the lower left side of your screen. Bring up the console command UI and you’ll see the commands here that you’ve already used.
Here, you can add in new commands or edit existing ones. Most commands will end with either 1’s or 0’s, representing on and off respectively. Entering a wrong command or something else that the game doesn’t recognize will have no effect whatsoever.
You’ll have to make do with entering these commands one by one until you have everything you need set up.
A good tip would be to make use of a keyboard that’s compatible with your Xbox or PS5. If you’re a gamer who has all the time in the world, then you can use your controller too.
Here’s a couple of good working commands that will help you move around easier in the game:
- r.shadowquality 0 – Removes all shadows in the game, potentially giving you more FPS if needed.
- grass.enable 0 – Switches off all the grass you see on your screen, again giving you more FPS.
- r.materialqualitylevel 0 – Sets the game to greyscale, highlighting specific objects of interest.
- show instancedfoliage – If seeing grass was bothering you then this removes the trees obstructing your view. All of them. Pretty useful if you’re moving around the Redwood Forest. This command doesn’t require much, just enter it again to turn it on and off.

Is there one for the dino levels?
I’ve tried “OverrideOfficialDifficulty=5” but that didn’t seem to effect anything.
P.S. I’ve also tried doing it without the equal sign.
Try “SetDifficultyValue 5”
No idea if it works on ASA but worked on ASE for consoles
