Survival games like Ark Survival Ascended focus on gathering materials and using them to craft different tools and structures. Now, Metal is one of the game’s most important and commonly used resource for progression. In this guide we are going to talk about top 10 best locations for gathering metal ores in The Island.
The Island Map Top 10 Best Metal Locations
Metal can be turned to Metal ores, once refined in either refining forge or industrial forge. You can use them for crafting weapon and building pieces. Also, Magmasaur or Phoenix are creatures you could use to refine it if you tamed any of these two creatures.
You can mine metal out of many kinds of stone. It is even possible to get it from regular rock. But keep in mind that most rocks have low chance of yielding it. To mine metal ores, you will need a pickaxe or a creature that can help you gathering supplies.
The best candidate to assist you in gathering materials is none other than Ankylosaurus, due to its ability to easily collect any metal.
It can transport metal in its inventory more effectively by reducing the weight of the metal by 85%. Also, Ankylosaurus can drop metal from rocks by smashing them with its attacks.

Herbarium Island
For the first one of the top 10 best metal locations, we will talk about is Herbarium Island or Herbivore Island.
As the name suggests, the island is a safe place. Because it only has herbivore dinosaurs. So, you don’t need to worry about predators.
You can find Herbivore Island in the southeast corner of the map. Only downside is you will need a raft or a good mount to carry around the metal ore you collected in this island.
Other than that, it has plenty of deposits and a bonus. It is also a spawn point for Ankylosaurus. You can tame one to help you.
Metal Mountain
This next spot is a bit harder to farm due to Raptors and Carnotaurus spawning around it. But it is named Metal Mountain. So the name tells everything. You can find Metal Mountain at the south of the map.
You can start finding ore from the location in the picture down below, and as you go on top of the mountain, there will be lots of metal nodes around, and at the very peak there are a lot of crystal and some concentraded metal ore.
Dead Trees
The third place is a little trickier, but if you don’t mind the cold, it definitely worths the effort. This location is on the Arctic Plateau. Beginning at the map’s indicated location, you can head slightly north to observe an area covered with multiple dead trees.
Since all of the nearby rocks covered in snow, metal is hard to see, yet even so, most of the nodes in the area contain metal. There are plenty of Obsidian and Oil as bonuses down from the section.
Edge of the Swamp
If you are well prepared for it, the fourth location we will show you has high density of metal ore. The fact that, you can find it on the edge of the swamp and the presence of some carnivores, including T-rex, makes it even more challenging to locate this area.
You can find this mountain at 67.8/62.1 coordinates. There should be nearly 30 metal ore nodes around the top of the montain.
Volcano
We can call this spot nasty just because of the spawns near the area. We are talking about the foothills of the volcano. There are tons of metal around here, but a lot of carnivores also. Around the southern slope you can see the metal scattered all around the volcano.
If you have a flyer or can somehow find a way to top of the volcano, you can find heaps of concentrated metal ore inside the volcano. As Giga’s spawn point located inside of the volcano, you should be more careful.
Moreover, Giga is not the only problem here since the heat can also tear you down, be careful.
Redwoods Center
Another location is not so far from the volcano. It is in the middle of the Redwoods and exact center of the map. This mountain top has ton of ore, crsytals, obsidian and lots of Ankylosaurus if you want to tame one.
To reach here, we suggest a sturdy flyer because Redwoods is a nasty place and if you prefer to go on foot, you will encounter Thylas and Scorpions waiting to hunt you down.
Extremely Dangerous Mountain
Our seventh location is also an extremely dangerous mountain, but there are tons of metal waiting for you to find them at the peak of the mountain. Argies, Rexes, Allos are scattered around, but if you can get there, you will have enough ores.
One tip we can give you is; You can bait the creatures around to make them fall off the cliff. This way will be safer while mining.
Barren Mountain
The barren mountain to the east of the volcano will be our next place to find metal ore. Although dangerous due to wildlife, the main problem here is that the slope is too steep and challenging to navigate; also, if you have a tamed Ankylosaurus this spot will be difficult for him to navigate as well.
Blue Obelisk
The next Blue Obelisk was a better place for metal farming in the previous game, Ark Survival Evolved, but it still has decent enough metal and other valuable resources. Even though the spawns there are nasty, you should be careful when you go there.
Freezing Cold Mountain
The last one on our list is a freezing place, perhaps even frigid than the Arctic Plateau. Players called it the freezing cold mountain. At this point there is a lot of ore in a tight space. There is a broken peak on the top of the mountain, and inside there are ore.
