Looking for treasure can be exciting. The thought of finding interesting stuff hidden deep in the ground is so locked into our minds through a combination of curiosity and pirate movies. That’s also the reason why people in real life take up treasure hunting with metal detectors in real life, because of all the interesting things you can find hidden away in the earth. Dinkum can let you experience that without buying expensive equipment! We’ll show you how to use the Metal Detector in this guide.

But first, where can you get the metal detector? Before you even think of getting one, you need to talk to Grandma Fletch. She can sell you the License to use the tool. This is true for real life as well since a lot of countries in the world need you to have some sort of permit to actually use these things, like in Australia.

Then, you can buy the Metal Detector in John’s shop. This follows once you’ve made a permanent building for his shop in the early parts of the game. The tool sells for 6,600 Dinks, which is a lot at that point in the game. So go and do some selling if you don’t have that amount yet.

Once you’ve got your metal detector you can finally start your treasure hunting! So, you should equip that metal detector. Once you do, press and hold your right mouse button to use it.

When using the metal detector, you’ll be slow, you’ll also hear a beeping sound that goes faster and faster the closer you are to something. You should keep an eye out on the ground when you are near something. If you’re near something just walk around with the metal detector activated until you see the symbol below.

Congratulations, you’ve found something hidden in the dirt. Now get your shovel and dig it out. Usually, you get stuff that you can’t make yourself like old gears or old wheels, but sometimes you find something else…

There’s a chance that a barrel appears when you dig a spot. You can open it by hitting it with your tools or weapons. This is great since barrels usually spawn more stuff and sometimes even rare items. Although there’s something better than barrels.

When you’re going around doing treasure hunts you might dig up this gold-colored box. This is the best you can get since it usually drops the more high-end loot in the game, so keep an eye on those! Like the barrels, you can open these by hitting them.

While looking around the island you might see these “X” marks on the ground. Those are buried items you can find without a Metal detector; you can still find more buried items with it but if you don’t have the detector yet, this is another way of getting treasure.

Now that’s the basics of using the Metal Detector. Now go out there and find those treasures!
