In MMOs, it is absolutely required to have a raid. It is basically the ultimate challenge for players who have sunk hundreds to thousands of hours into the game. In Final Fantasy XIV, you get your raids all right. But you get something even more challenging than regular raids. Enter the Savage Raid, a higher difficulty of each raid that will make you rip your hair out of your head because of how difficult it is. The first step in preparing for a Savage run is choosing your role and job. In Final Fantasy XIV, you have to choose which job to pick from when you start. Whether it’s Paladin or Machinist, these jobs are essentially what you will be using until you can choose a different job.
Each job serves a role. Dark Knights are Tanks, Dragoons are DPS, White Mages are Healers etc. and you have to follow that role when in a raid. You can’t be a DPS Dark Knight or a Tank Dragoon because you will become ineffective and a nuisance to the raid group.
Once you pick what job you want to use in the raid, then you have to stick to that role throughout the entirety of it. Every person has a role to play, and one person not playing their role can be catastrophic for everyone else.
Next up is gear. This can be harder than fighting in the Savage raid because of how high the requirement is. Sometimes, you’ll want to settle for just the minimum requirement just so you can get inside the raid quickly. This is not advisable.
Always try to go above the requirement of the raid, because it will very difficult for you to do so if you’re only just above the minimum requirements. Recommended or even above that is the go-to for gear, because better gear makes it easier for you and you will take less damage than normal.
Where can you find these gears? Well, you can find them in the Alliance Raids and the regular Raids. They will drop gear that you can use to upgrade and improve in order to reach its maximum potential so you can use it in the raid.
If you have the Gil, why not spend it? You can even buy a crafted gear set that matches the raid tier. Although this is quite expensive, it’s the easier choice and less time consuming.
But always make sure that gear you’re using has the best stats for the role you’re playing as. For example, a Black Mage or Summoner must prioritize Spell Speed first, then Determination. Each role has their own desired stats when playing in a raid, so make sure you have those stats to get a better chance.
Another thing to help out our gear is with Materia and Melding. Materia is basically a status booster that will help you survive in the Savage raid. Your gear should have two slots so you can meld your materia onto them. More materia is usually better. Crafted materias are usually the best, and they can be bought in the market if you can’t craft them.
You can also Overmeld your crafted gear to get a massive increase in stats, but it is very expensive and usually not recommended unless it’s a last resort.
Lastly, eat food! You can get seriously good buffs from eating high quality food, and they are overlooked by new players. Just like in other games like Monster Hunter, even Final Fantasy XV, food is a great source of buffs, and they will help you fight better.
Now that you’re geared up with a belly full of food, it’s time to go through the raid. But you need to have a party with you. But not just any party with randoms. You need a party full of people you know.
This is, without a doubt, the most important thing you need to remember. Running a raid with randoms, who don’t even communicate, is a nightmare. It makes the raid unnecessarily harder, and it will just frustrate you.
Always have a party full of people you know that actually plays the game. If you can’t find a group, at least make sure the randoms have a microphone just so you can communicate. Even if it’s through chat. You don’t want a group full of randoms just running around, doing whatever. That guarantees you getting absolutely nothing done.
