It’s difficult to keep your excitement contained when you’re one of the few people fortunate enough to get their hands on a brand spanking new PS5 without getting in touch with a scalper. Now you’re all set up and ready to join in on the fun with your friends playing Call of Duty. But wait, what’s that? You’re jumping around the match and experiencing all sorts of anomalies and can’t play multiplayer games properly? Well that’s mildly inconvenient, especially when your ping is only showing positive results. If you don’t mind reading through this guide while staying on your Home Menu for a few minutes we’ll get that sorted right away!

How to Stop Lag Spikes on PS5 and Improve Latency

If you’re not the type who fiddles around with their settings before jumping into any game then you’ll have to make do with doing just that for a few minutes. Don’t worry, getting to your settings is just a matter of clicking the gear icon right next to the search bar.

Since we’re talking about how frustrating it is to deal with an unstable internet connection, select “Network” on your settings menu. It’s right under the “Accesibility” tab.

Now go and select “Settings” again and choose “Set up Internet Connection”.

We’re going to mess with your direct connection, select that and choose “Advanced Settings”, after that go to where it says “DNS Settings” and switch it from “automatic” to “manual”.

Once you’re done with your DNS Settings go and set your Primary and Secondary DNS to match what’s being displayed on the image above.

Last is your MTU Settings, set that to manual just as we did with the previous setting and copy the four digits on the image again to keep things easy.

And that’s all you need to do, having a direct connection instead of a wireless one is almost always guaranteed to lessen the inconsistencies of your overall connection. Try the settings for yourself and see if there’s an improvement! We have another method of fixing your connection issue if you feel like the problem involves an external factor so give that a read if you want to optimize your connection further!

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
