Best combinations for the Greatsword!

Monster Hunter Sunbreak: Best Greatsword Combos Guide

Monster Hunter Sunbreak is all about looking cool while fighting and defeating huge scary monsters. One of the most famous ways of killing a dragon from popular media is of course by using a sword. In this guide, we will be talking about the biggest fan-favorite weapon the Greatsword, and how to use it better.

Best Greatsword Combos Guide – Monster Hunter Sunbreak

The Greatsword is able to do over 6.000 damage to Monsters at the time. A big enough damage that will make it look like you’re the biggest monster hunter in the world. It has abilities to combo and turn back damage to your target making the Greatsword a very effective weapon.

These are the 3 best combos that one grazer player might need to know to deal optimal damage to your enemy monsters:

Combo 1

To get the most out of this combo you will want to have these switch skills equipped on your character:

  • Tackle
  • True Charged Slash
  • Charged Slash Combo
  • Strongarm Stance
  • Power Sheathe

The most important are the Charged Slash, the Slash Combo, and the Stance.

You can enter the Counter Stance by pressing the buttons needed for the Strongarm Stance. After successfully parrying an attack, your next move will be a Charge and a Charged Slash with the max charged level (level 3).

If you perform the counter while already attacking the monster, your next move will then be the True Charged Slash. This is also an amazing way of dealing a lot of damage while staying protected.

The True Charged Slash gets a 35% damage boost if used after a successful counter and makes this combo great for its speed but for the damage output too. You will want to use the counter right before getting hit, this way you’ll get a 50% damage boost.

You can use a combo with a bomb. Place the bomb and use the Charge skill while activating the Stance immediately after standing on the bomb. This will make it so that you’ll be a step behind the bomb and it won’t send you flying. An excellent way to wake up a sleeping monster.

Combo 2

After landing a TCS you can perform a switch skill swap to actually cancel that 1 second of recovery animation that you will have. This way you can transition to the next charging animation without being vulnerable.

You can do this by using the Red and Blue Swap Scrolls. What the key here is, is that you can use the same builds of skills in the same scrolls. Meaning you aren’t losing on anything and instead you just lose that animation recovery time. Score!

With the new playstyle with Sunbreak, now you will want to be in charging animation before a monster before the monster actually hits you. This way you can use the strongarm stance. Sometimes this is difficult because of the usage of TCS. So by cancelling the recovery time with the swap, you’ll be able to go into another charge very quickly.

Combo 3

Instead of doing a charge attack and canceling it with a tackle you can instead guard and roll and then do a tackle at the end. When done correctly this combo is one of the fastest ways to get to the tackle while your weapon is sheathed. This is also amazing for covering a lot of distance between you and your target.

Since the Tackle will do stun damage, you can use it multiple times on a monster.

The other way to do this combo is through the Guard, then Kick, and then Tackle combination. This is an amazing combo when you’re in a good position and you don’t want to move so much.
