With the new Steam Next Fest starting a lot of games out there that are still in development are now showing off their demos! One of the games that a lot of people are looking forward to play is Manor Lords. This game offers a city builder game with real time strategy elements. It aims to give the player an authentic experience of building a town and lording over it, mixing resource management, diplomacy, trade and war in a medieval lord simulator. In this Complete Beginner’s guide we’ll show you some tips for new players and for those who are looking for general tips in playing the game!
Complete Beginner’s Guide | Manor Lords
When you first start the game a lot of things might not be familiar. If you haven’t played a city building game you might not know where to start. Even if you’ve played a city builder games, you’d be quite confused on why you’re zoomed in to one person. When you start the game you’re controlling yourself, the lord of the Manor, thus the name Manor Lords.
Pause the Game
Sounds simple enough, but there’s a reason why you want to pause at the start. You’ll need to get your bearings, check the UI and so on and that’s fine, but you should do it while paused. That’s because as the game goes on your people consume your food supplies! So pause the game when you’re not doing anything.
Build Roads
If you’re a veteran of city builders you should know that roads are what connects everything together. Build roads around your city and to where you plan on placing buildings. Roads are free so don’t worry about the costs!
Assign Jobs
At the start you’ll be given an objective to build your first buildings. This will use up your resources and when you get to your second objective the buildings you need to make need resources. To get resources remember to set workers to your buildings so you can start getting resources!
Some buildings like woodcutters need you to select areas where they need to gather resources so keep that in mind as well.
Seasons
Keep an eye on the season on the lower right of the screen. Different seasons have different effects so keep that in mind. You don’t want to go to winter and realize your berry picking empire is gone for the season and your people are freezing to death!
Check the Banners
On top of your UI are banners that occasionally show up. These banners mean that there’s something you need to keep an eye on. Your peasants might be starving or freezing to death, if that’s happening there’s a banner that will appear.
