Project Zomboid has just released a new unstable build, which means that a lot of things are still a huge work in progress and are very likely to break your game in some ways. With that said, if you are interested in trying it out, there are huge changes to the map that can make you wonder where you are supposed to set up your base now. In this guide, we will give you a few suggestions to try out!

6 Best New Base Locations For Build 42

In case you were not aware, the map has been further expanded in the latest test version. There are a lot of bugs to be encountered, but once this becomes a stable patch (whenever that may be), here are a few recommendations on where you can settle down.

Base Location #1 – Echo Creek Diner & Gas Station

First up is the gas station & diner that can be found in the new location called Echo Creek. Check the map image below for reference. It is a spacious building with a lot of supplies and storage, gas pumps outside, and a large garage.

On top of that, it also has a second floor, and you can further expand onto the garage’s roof or continue building stuff outside to connect the storage shed to the main building. It also features a basement that provides even more space for storing stuff if you need it.

Base Location #2 – Dark Wallow Lake

Dark Wallow Lake can be found around the southern edge of the whole map, and it features a plethora of structures overseeing the lake itself. It is a great spot for players who prefer to live a more “outdoorsy” lifestyle as it has a lot of space, points of interest, and natural resources for you to harness.

If you want to get here as fast as possible, you will have to spawn over at Rosewood. You will also need to prepare a lot of initial supplies and weapons before you make the trip there, as you are going to be incredibly far from civilization.

Base Location #3 – The McCoy Estate

The McCoy Estate can be found near Muldraugh, and not only is it an impressive house right beside a lake, it also has almost everything you will ever need in a base already set up for you. It has a lot of crafting stations, a hilariously large amount of storage, plenty of space for farming, and more.

To balance out how overpowered this area can be right off the bat, it can be found in an incredibly remote location. It is so out of the way that you will need to travel long distances if you want to do literally anything else that does not involve staying within the estate. You will also need to fight a decent number of zombies at your initial arrival.

Base Location #4 – Fire Station in Brandenburg

At the northwestern corner of the map is the town of Brandenburg, and the fire station there is a decent central location that you can set up in. It has a lot of open space, plenty of storage options, some useful appliances and furniture, and more.

It is far from being the biggest compound in this location, but it is easy enough to access and clear. Being in a somewhat central spot also gives you quick access to the rest of the town, which includes a gas station.

Base Location #5 – The P.S. Delilah River Cruise in Brandenburg

Also in Brandenburg, the P.S. Delilah is a cruise ship with multiple floors and some decent space and amenities. It can be pretty easy to defend since it is well out of the way and has one entrance. After you initially clear it and claim the ship for yourself, you will have free rein to turn it into a coast side fortress.

Base Location #6 – The Underground Bunker in March Ridge

At the northwestern corner of March Ridge, which is a town near Rosewood, you will find an entrance to an underground bunker. Once you manage to gain access to it, the whole place has a lot of storage options, plenty of rooms to work with, and a whole lot of furniture and appliances.

It has a decent amount of supplies, but you will probably need to bring in your own resources for the most part. Overall, it is a generally awesome place to be in even if it is not entirely practical.

And those are some of our recommendations for where you can set up your base in the latest build of Project Zomboid. Just keep in mind that Build 42 is still incredibly buggy and should ideally not be played yet unless you are fine with all the issues that come with playing a patch that is heavily subject to change.
