V Rising is an open world RPG which you can find on Steam (Early Access) right now. One of the things it offers its veteran players is the Brutal Mode. In this mode, everything is far more difficult and is only intended for experienced players. Bosses like Octavian are even a bigger challenge on Brutal Mode. A lot of players struggle with Octavian on Brutal Mode. But you do not have to worry about it anymore, this guide will provide you with a strategy which you can use to defeat Octavian pretty easily (at least as easy as it can get).
Best Strategy To Beat Octavian on Brutal Mode
Now there are a lot of ways to actually beat Octavian on Brutal Mode but this strategy will provide you with a simple method that is easy to execute. First of all, let’s talk about what you need for this strategy to work.
Pistols
You will need Pistols to make this fight easier such as the Merciless Iron Pistols. You can also use something else like a Greatsword instead but Pistols make this fight much easier. It allows you to damage Octavian without getting too close. You are also able to avoid or counter his attacks easily this way because of the distance.
Abilities
Octavian has a lot of attacks and on Brutal Mode, he attacks very fast. He will barrage you with as many attacks as possible. To deal with this, you will be needing two counters such as the ones mentioned below:
Blood Rite
- This ability lets you block both Melee and Projectile attacks for 1.5 seconds.
- If you get hit by an attack within 1.5 seconds of activating this ability, you will push the enemy away and also deal 100% Magic damage. This attack will also inflict Leech on the enemy and make you invincible for 1.2 seconds.
- This ability has a cooldown of 10 seconds.
Discharge
- This ability will block all incoming Melee and Projectile attacks for 1.5 seconds.
- Enemies that are close to you and trigger Discharge will be stunned for 0.8 seconds.
- If you get hit by an attack, you will get a Storm Shield which will draw enemies closer and deal them 20% Magic damage while also inflicting Static. This effect can stack up to 3 times.
- This ability has a cooldown of 10 seconds.
Now, you will also need Merciless Charge which will prove helpful against Octavian’s Old Trick attack.
Merciless Charge
- This ability lets you dash towards the area you select and cause 125% magic damage in a small area upon impact. It will also stun the enemy for 1.5 seconds.
- You will need to be a little far from Octavian to use this ability because of its 0.7 seconds cast time.
- This ability has a cooldown of 2 minutes.
Beating Octavian
With the above mentioned weapon and abilities, you are ready to take on Octavian on Brutal Mode. Once you begin to fight Octavian, just maintain your distance and start bombarding him with your Pistols’ shots. Make sure to take maximum advantage of the Explosive Bullet ability of your Pistols.
Octavian will also bombard you with multiple attacks at the same time. This is where the two counter abilities will come in handy. You can counter his first attack with Discharge and while that is on cooldown, counter his next attack with Blood Rite. Keep shuffling between those two counters and Explosive Bullet also lets you dodge so use that as well to avoid his attacks.
Archer
After some time, he will summon an Archer to aid him. Make sure to take care of this Archer as soon as possible. While you are attacking the Archer, be careful not to get cornered by Octavian.
Old Trick
One of the most annoying attacks of Octavian is the Old Trick attack where he spins around and throws a lot of blades everywhere. One way to effectively deal with this attack is by using Merciless Charge on him when he starts spinning. You will have to make sure you aim correctly or you will miss your attack and end up taking damage.
Or you can just run to the other side of the area to avoid getting hit by the blades. It’s up to your preference whichever you find easier.
And just keep chipping away at his health like this and you will be able to defeat him in no time. You may fail if you are fighting him for the first time on Brutal Mode because his attacks are faster but after a few tries, you should be able to get a handle on his attacks.
