Tribes of Midgard is an action role-playing survival game that was released back on July 27, 2021, for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It soon got a release for other consoles like the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on August 16, 2022, a little over a year later. This top-down RPG lets you take control of Vikings as they survive the harsh cold of Fimbulwinter, as well as the monsters that come out.

In this guide, we will be showing you how to survive Survival Mode early in the game.

Survival Mode Early Game Guide – Tribes of Midgard Season 4

Tweak the Settings to Your Liking

Survival mode isn’t actually as hard as it sounds, but you can make it harder on yourself if you choose to do so.

When choosing Survival mode, you will be given the option to change some things. Map size, enemy difficulty, resources you can lose if you die, and more. You can pretty much play Survival mode on a very easy difficulty should you wish to do so.

However, making the game very easy will reward you with less XP, so there is a downside to having an easier difficulty if you do so. But again, that’s up to you.

Explore Your Surroundings

The best thing about Survival mode is that you won’t have to worry about time, which is something that can get pretty annoying in Saga mode.

In Saga mode, you have little time available as Ragnarok fast approaches, making things like exploring and such a non-viable option.

Meanwhile, in Survival mode, you won’t have to worry too much about time, which allows you to freely explore the map at your leisure.

Villagers Need to Be Upgraded First

When starting your game, you will have to build up your village first.

The village is essentially your home base, where your warriors will return to and where your villagers will stay. However, your villagers are the most important part, so you will need to upgrade them if you want your village to thrive.

The four villagers you must upgrade are:

  • Blacksmith
  • Trapper
  • Tinker
  • Armorsmith

I suggest you start upgrading the Tinker first, as they get better materials for the village as the game goes on.

Once you have a good enough village, then you should focus on the Blacksmith and Armorsmith. After all, your warriors will need to have the best weapons to survive the fights.

Make Use of the War Chest

When you die in Tribes of Midgard, you will lose the items in your inventory. It’s pretty similar to Minecraft, and it also shares the same frustration of having to lose all of your hard-earned resources.

However, just like Minecraft, you can store your resources in a chest called the War Chest. Make use of it every so often, as you never know when you might meet your end.

Increase Your Village Defenses

Remember when I said that you should upgrade your villagers to help keep your village alive? Well, you should do the same for your village.

In Survival mode, you will get a lot of attacks from Helthings at all times. If you have weak defenses, then your chances of survival are slim to none.

I recommend getting gates and guard towers added first.

The gates are especially useful, as they will prevent the enemies from charging into the village immediately. The guard towers need to be next as they will rain down arrows on the Helthings as soon as they arrive.
