Throughout your time playing Ark: Survival Ascended, you will eventually find yourself taming a wide variety of dinosaurs to the point where you may have a disorganized mess of creatures hanging out at your base.

In this guide, we will briefly go over how you can make your life a little easier by separating different dinosaur classes into specific groups.

How to Use Group Commands

First, bring up your inventory and click on the Tracking tab, which can be found on the upper middle part of the menu. Next, click on Dino Groups on the upper right hand side of the screen.

This will bring up your Tame Ordering Groups, which is where you can change the name of different categories and check whether there is still space in each one.

Adding or Removing Dinos to Groups

In order to add (or remove) any creature or class to a group, walk up to one of your tames and hold the E button. From there, you can select the “Modify Ordering Groups” option.

This will allow you to either add/remove that specific dinosaur or its entire class (basically meaning every single creature of the same kind) to/from one of the ten possible groups.

To check whether the creature or class has been successfully added to the group, simply open the tracking list tab once more and bring up the Dino Groups menu.

Actually Controlling Each Group

Now, using the numbers on your keyboard’s Numpad, you can select groups one through ten by pressing the corresponding button.

You can also press the H button to show green arrows under the selected dinosaurs.

With a specific group selected, any commands that you whistle will be carried out only by the chosen creatures.

This means that you can set specific groups to follow you around, stay in a certain spot, or even switch to an aggressive or passive state.

This can be incredibly useful in combat situations as you can direct specific dinosaurs towards certain targets or have creatures flee if their health has gotten too low.

And that is everything you need to know about tame ordering groups and how to order them around in Ark: Survival Ascended. These somewhat advanced mechanics will help you maximize efficiency and better control your tames in the game!
