Mercenaries are an easy and convenient way to get dirty work in Manor Lords. The only downside is that they’re expensive, but if you’re not confident in your militia just yet, hiring Mercenaries will increase your chance of military success. In this guide, I’ll tell you all about Mercenaries and how to hire and use them.
Mercenaries – How To Hire & Use
Manor Lords gives you the option to use your militia or spend some money to hire mercenaries to avoid casualties and a loss of resources. Sometimes, you just won’t have enough equipment to pull off a battle, so the option to hire soldiers for a pretty coin is a great addition to the game.
How To Hire Mercenaries
You can recruit Mercenaries from the army menu where you can find and recruit militia units. To the right of the militia banners, click the icon of a hand dropping coins – this is where you can hire mercenaries.
You can choose from low, mid-range, and expensive mercenaries on this screen. Note that for early-game players, mercenaries will be expensive, even at the lowest end. Don’t worry. Once you keep growing your town, you can take tax money from your Burgage Plots to beef up your army with mercenary units.
Using Mercenary Units
Mercenary units are flexible but are best used to supplement the militia you already have. They work best fighting alongside your military force during raids, but it’s also acceptable to use them for quick raids and bandits when you don’t want to use your military force.
At the end of the day, Mercenary units are optional but helpful fighting units good for hitting hard and fast. If you can afford it, it’s recommended to hire even the cheapest mercenary contract – now that you know how to hire and use mercenaries, take advantage of this feature!
