Rimworld is a kind of game that you try playing for a couple of hours and it’s suddenly 4AM and you forgot to eat Lunch and Dinner. It’s an addictive game since there’s so much things you can do and every playthrough can be different. Now with one of the biggest DLCs of the game released there’s even more stuff to do in the game, and let’s not get started on the mods! So before you go out there and start a new colony or load up your save, you should take into consideration adding animals to your colony. Here’s a tier list of the best animals in the game.
All Animals Tier List For RimWorld
What makes an animal an S tier and what makes it an F tier, some people may look at these animals differently. This tier list accounts their tamability, their overall use in doing things like hauling or attacking and their efficiency as farm animals. We all know we love the Yorkshire terrier, but it can’t haul or rescue and if a raider sneezes 5 feet away I’m pretty sure they die from the sound wave alone.
S – Tier
- Mufallo – The iconic Rimworld animal. Can be tamed, can haul, can be great pack animals and can be great hunted as well.
- Cats – I am legally obliged to add this to the S-tier. Don’t tell anyone but they’re actually D tier. They can’t be trained, they only nuzzle, and their only big point is their sell price.
- Elephant – If you can tame an elephant they can be great fighters, great haulers and they’re cute to boot!
- Husky – Same as the elephant but smaller, they can fight well, they aren’t as tanky but you can teach them anything.
- Labrador Retrievers – Same as the Husky but with slightly lower combat abilties.
- Bear – If you can tame a bear they’re one of the most badass animals to send and fight. They can also haul and if you hunt them they give a lot of meat.
- Timber Wolf – Same as the other dogs but with better fighting stats.
A – Tier
- Thrumbo – Another Iconic animal in Rimworld, they give a lot of meat, they’re expensive and so on. They’re only A tier because they’re very, very difficult to tame.
- Boomalope – They’re chemfuel dispensers, they go boom when they die so not so great for harvesting them for their meat. Still, chemfuel is pretty important!
- Panther and Cougars – They can be great fighters but are lower in the list because of how squishy they are.
- Donkey – One of the better pack animals out there, they can be bred easily and don’t need much to eat.
- Camel – They’re great pack animals and they produce milk as well, they also speed up caravans like Donkeys and Horses.
- Horse – One of the best pack animals in the game, plus there’s something majestic about owning one of these.
- Ibex – Strangely enough they’re one of the most sufficient animals to grow and slaughter.
- Megasloth – Just like the elephant but with a much more difficult chance to tame them.
- Rhino – Rhinos can give you a lot of meat when hunted and are great attack animals, but they can’t haul nor rescue.
- Yak – Yaks produce more milk than Camels but don’t give a caravan speed bonus.
B – Tier
- Bison – Great for hunting and are basically the same as muffalo but doesn’t produce milk.
- Alpaca – A great and cheap source of wool for a colony. Yields a good amount of milk as well.
- Chickens – Produces eggs that can be cooked or hatched, a great farm animal.
- Cows – Another great farm animal but lower than the chicken in terms of efficiency but is more lag-friendly.
- Goat – Another farm animal that is good for milking. Nothing much to say.
- Megaspider – Great fighters but is really hard to tame.
- Pig – Pigs used to be good, they could haul, rescue and eat anything. Now they’re nerfed to the ground and are just as good as cows.
- Sheep – A great source of wool jst like the Alpaca.
- Tortoise – The most nutritionally efficient animal in the game that’s downside makes it lower in the tier. They aren’t blocked by fences and have a high tameness upkeep.
- Warg – Great fighters and can be bred quickly but they only eat meat and corpses, they don’t even eat meals with meat in them.
C – Tier
- Ducks – They’re the most nutrient efficient when slaughtered while they’re juvenile, and even hunting them in the wild doesn’t yield much.
- Deer – They’re great for hunting since they’re usually with herds and don’t attack you.
- Caribou – Same as deer but they can attack you.
- Cobra – An army of them looks cool that’s for sure, but they’re not the best fighters not even with their poison. I’ve seen many die to tortoise.
- Boomrat – Smaller cousins of the Boomalope but they don’t produce chemfuel.
- Elk – They have the same meat, leather and milk rate as Yaks but they can’t carry cargo and are wilder.
- Gazelle – Great at hunting, they can also be tamed and slaughtered but take too much effort for the handlers.
- Goose – Just a worst version of a chicken.
- Spelopede – When tamed they can actually haul, but when slaughtered they give insect meat.
- Turkey – A very average animal with no good or bad.
- Boar – Same as the pigs they used to be great, they’ve been nerfed and are just wilder versions of pigs.
D – Tier
- Cassowary – Much like turkey but they’re rarer to find with only two possible biomes.
- Capybara – I’m going to get flak for this but they’re just cute and nothing else. Not much meat and leather.
- Chinchilla – Expensive leather but they’re too much of an effort to breed and can easily die.
- Emu – They’re good for hunting, not much for animal husbandry and they can beat you up as well.
- Guinea pig – They can nuzzle colonists and they’re cute as well in game and in real life. They’re the only wild animal with the cute trait, but they also have the lowest health value.
- Iguana – Nothing exceptional about them, can only be found in certain biomes.
- Lynx – High chance of fighting back when hunted, can’t be trained to attack, and are weak compared to other fighting animals.
- Ostrich – See Emus.
- Raccoon – They’re cute but not in-game cute. Not much meat and not worth taming.
- Fox – Fox fur can be expensive but other than that there’s not really much.
F – Tier
- Rat – Some people make rat armies, but they will lag lower end PCs. Not much meat, not much leather.
- Scarabs – There’s no reason to tame them and they produce insect meat.
- Alphabeaver – They eat all of your trees and that’s a war crime in my book.
- Hare and Snow Hare – Not much meat, not much leather, can be annoying to hunt with low shooting.
- Monkey – For some reason they can’t haul?
- Squirrel – Same as rats but less funny when making an army of them.
- Yorkshire terrier – The only reason why this is lower than the Guinea pig is that the Guinea pigs can be found in the wild. Also Randy Random finds it funny of sending 17 of them to my base and I have to explain to my friend that butchering 17 cute dogs is for the good of the colony.
