The Mechanitors are a brand new type of Psycasters that can control mechanoids to help them with work and combat. Anyone can be a Mechanitor, with the exception of those who are psychically deaf. People with high crafting skills are more valuable as Mechanitors, as mechanoid repair requires smithing.

To become a Mechanitor, you can either start the game as one, or you attack the Ancient Exostrider. Specifically, its midsection. You can only find this on your starting tile, and this will only work once. Your second settlement and so on will not have this option.

Once you have successfully destroyed the Exostrider’s midsection, you will be able to get the Mechanoid Transponder inside. Go to your Research Bench and decrypt it. Once you have decrypted it, you will be able to do the Mechanitor Wreck quest, which will summon a damaged alien ship to your colony.

Once the ship lands, you will see a Mechanitor corpse and mechs guarding said corpse. Defeat the mechs and loot the corpse to extract the Mechlink. You can install the Mechlink into your head and become a Mechanitor.

There is a third way to become a Mechanitor. When you play the game, you will randomly be offered a quest that tells you there is an ancient complex that is rumored to store a Mechanitor and a Mechlink. Exploring the complex and finding the Mechanitor inside will reward you with the Mechlink.

So now that you are a Mechanitor, what benefits do you get from becoming one? First off, you can now control mechanoids. But first, you need to create them. Once you do, you can assign them to do whatever you want. From doing basic work to combat. Your first mecthech will be for free, which will be dropped near you from space.

At this point, you must be adept with Research and Construction, as your mech requires to be recharged when it reaches low battery. If you do not have the necessary skills to charge your mech, then it will remain dormant until you can.

Also take note that you need bandwidth in order to control more mechanoids. If you have few bandwidths, then you can only control a few mechanoids.

There are plenty of ways to increase bandwidth, like Band Nodes or an Airwire Headset. Remember that the larger the mech, the more bandwidth it consumes, so be sure to have the correct amount of bandwidth available before making larger mechs.

While there are more things to learn about being a Mechanitor, this is the important information you need to know when choosing to become one.

Huge thanks to Rhadamant for putting this information out. If you want to learn more about how to become a Mechanitor, then you can watch his video to get an in depth explanation of being one: Complete Guide to Mechanitors – RimWorld Biotech DLC.
