Raids and dungeons in MMORPGs have been a staple of the genre since the idea of RPGs in general. We all know about Dungeons and Dragons and there’s a reason why the first word of DnD stuck so well in games. They’re akin to levels in platformers, or chapters in more story-centric games, it’s a chunk of content players can go through the game and there’s usually more than one of them. In New World Expeditions are the game’s dungeons and there’s a lot to learn about them, in this guide we’ll set you up with the basics of doing Expeditions in the game.
Expeditions Beginner’s Guide | New World
So, what are Expeditions? Expeditions are group PVE content in New World that you do with a party. It is highly suggested that you start doing Expeditions when you at least level 25, since doing so earlier might be too difficult.
The party is always comprised of a healer whose job it is to keep everyone alive, the tank which takes the brunt of the damage, and the 3 damage dealers that’s job is to deal the most damage, thus the name.
Before you jump into an expedition it’s important to stock up on consumables. Food for regeneration and potions like Healing potions and Regeneration potions. You might also need some other consumables as you go through higher level expeditions like honing stones and coatings.
When you jump into an expedition you should know what to fight first. Expeditions usually have two types of enemies in them, and each enemy type has different strengths and weaknesses. For example, Lost type enemies are weak to Strike, Ice and Nature damage.
This is important since in higher level expedition teams most players have sets of gear that mitigates their damage type as well as increase their damage to the enemy type. So, it’s good to keep an eye on what kind of enemies are you fighting.
Bosses in Expeditions usually have some sort of mechanic to them when fighting, the most common ones are area of effect damage that you need to avoid. Some of them can be more complex than that though so strategize with your team and remember the mechanics.
