New World: Materia Guide | How To Get It & Use It

New system is just what we needed in New World! Well, maybe not so much. They could have done something else in this regard. But how does it work and how can you make the most out of it? Let’s find out in this Materia Guide.

Materia Guide | How To Get it & Use It – New World

So as we know the July PTR has brought so many new changes and additions to the New World. Whether it’s for good or for bad the future will tell. The Materia has come with yet another system which is built in-game right one. This is how the developers have described it:

It is saying that this new system should be here to overcome the randomness of the loot in the Expeditions. This recourse will be used for crafting and there will be 2 ways to obtain it. You can get it from expeditions or defeating the last bosses of certain stages.

There are different kinds of Materias that can be gotten from the game:

  • Starstone Materia
  • Lazarus Materia
  • Genesis Materia
  • Dynasty Materia
  • Depths Materia
  • Amrine Materia
  • Tempest Materia

When you defeat a final big boss 100 Materia after an expedition that you have passed successfully. You will get 30 Materia for each boss drop that you salvage. From what we can pay so far, this amount is very very low. It will take you tons of time in order to get even a worthy value of Materia number. This is sort of a grindy system right now.

Most of the time you will be going for an item that you want to take with Materia Points. But while you’re grinding your way to getting these Materia you will have seen that you even out-leveled or out-geared that item that you’ve been looking for.

Usage

You can use these Materia Points, which you have stockpiled after a couple of grinding hours, for usually in crafting recipes. You can find these under Unique Expedition Rewards in the crafting menu. All of the Materia-created items will be found in this list on the left. Of course depending on the station where you’re at.

You will also notice that the prices for crafting these items can range from 800 to 3000 or sometimes 5000 Materia Points. This of course depends on the scale of the items, low level, big level, etc.

This is a problem that the game has now. The Endgame loot gear costs 5000 Materia, but we have items that are not Endgame loot that cost the same. Maybe this will be changed in time but as of writing, you will need to keep an eye out on this. Do not waste your hard to get Materia points on something that you will salvage later on.

On creating these Endgame items with the Materia Points there will be also a big portion of RNG involved. This means that you’ll have to rely on your luck most of the time on getting that desired item that you’ve long wanted. You will start crafting an item, and then have an option of whether to continue and try your chance again or simply give up.

You will need to try your luck and hope for a higher Gear Score while crafting. Most of the time it will work and you’ll be able to get your items to a much higher level.

Final Thoughts

Overall this is a great system that they’ve implemented and it works well if you follow the Materia Guide. It does need some work for the devs to focus on though especially on the low to mid-level gear. As for the end gear this is fantastic and it will see a big usage over the years to come.
